Voyager Torture features Vincent reviewing an episode of Star Trek Voyager that he’s seen for the first time and Chris Piers creating a drawing based solely on Vincent’s review and never having seen the show.
To begin describing this episode of Star Trek Voyager is a rabbit hole. There’s a lot going on (yet it’s all so amazingly boring), so I’ll try to be as basic as possible.
An away team composed of the usual suspects from the Voyager crew finds an asteroid full of bodies covered in what appears to be silk. There’s a big power burst and Kim ends up in another dimension with aliens, while the Voyager crew ends up with a freshly dead (and silk covered body).
Turns out these aliens have access to this thing that sends them into what they think is their afterlife. They’re wrong, it’s just sending them into this asteroid belt where their bodies are piling up. The arrival of Kim from “the other side” and him telling them “No, you’re not going to space heaven your just moving your bodies” puts a damper on their whole scene, man.
He ends up switching with some guy who is about to get in this space pod death ride, ends up back in the Voyager where he’s cured of death (you die when you go in the pod) and they move on.
Oh but before the very end we learn that there’s some mysterious energy field thing going on and it maybe is the aliens in their after life. Whatever, who gives a shit?
How Close Was Chris?
Chris draws a really convincing fake Star Trek alien for never having seen the episode. The frustration that Kim is feeling in this image perfectly captures my frustration.
Least Annoying Characters:
Most Torturous Moment:
Chakotay acting like he knows all about the aliens culture just by looking at their dead bodies. Shut up.
Torture Score: 4 out of 5 Neelixes
