While traveling to my parents’ house for a visit I decided to break up the three hour long drive by stopping at a Target. While inside I found some decent non-toy deals. It wasn’t until I got back to my car did I realize that my lock had been getting janky and that the sub zero degree temperatures would do nothing good for it. Sure enough, my key would not turn the lock.* I walked back into Target to their shitty automotive section where they did not have a single lock de-icer. Yippie. That meant that I had to walk about a city block down to the Wal-Mart that I didn’t intend to go to in order to gain access to my car.
By the time I got into Wal-Mart, my face hurt from the frigid arctic blast. Man, Wisconsin living is sweet. Anyway, after I found the lock de-icer (fuck you, Target), I continued to warm up by checking out the clearance section tucked away in Lawn and Garden. In the very last isle was a bunch of Lego clearance at 50% off!
Very rarely have I ever seen anything Lego brand at 50% off, and almost never licensed Lego product. It had to have been a fluke, because I saw other Lego on “clearance” at the same store in a different aisle for barely anything off of the retail price.
With other pressing matters at hand, mostly the question of whether or not I’d be able to get into my car, I left the stuff to take care of that issue. When I got back to the car nearly dead from exposure the de-icer worked and I went back to Wal-Mart to cash in on the savings. I had left one TIE on the shelf and a bunch of the smaller sets. Of course, I looked like a freak with a cart full of Lego, but fuck it. Fond du Lac is a hick town. They deserved the show.
On my return voyage I decided to stop and maybe pick up more of the smaller sets, but the section had been wiped out. Someone else had found the fantastic deal that was as about as hidden as possible in the retail giant. I ended picking up:
- (2) X-Wings
- (2) TIE Fighters
- Batman Bat Cave
- (2) Lord of the Rings Shelob Attacks
- (2) Batman Catwoman Catcyle City Chase
- Monster Fighters: The Werewolf
All the sets were in mint condition, except for the Batcave which features some pretty prominent tears across the box. It’s like tape had been ripped off of it.
I got one of everything I saw, except a Monster Fighters Ghost Train, which didn’t really have anything I wanted in it. I regret not buying it now, mostly due to my toy gluttony rather than wanting the actual set.
So far me and the lady teamed up to build a TIE Fighter and X-Wing. They’re pretty sweet sets, especially since the X-Wing comes with mini-figure Porkins! They’re even cooler knowing that they’re still full price at many stores.

*My car only has one keyed door lock, thanks to it supposed to have key-less entry standard, something that was never installed in my car for whatever insane reason.
