Tiny Emperor Lives in our Memories

Back in my youth I had an insatiable appetite for Star Wars, particularly the toys from Kenner. The mail-away figures were quite popular in my household due to the fact that I didn’t have an exactly affluent upbringing. Don’t get me wrong, we weren’t on food stamps or anything like that, I just wasn’t one of those kids that could get everything thing I wanted.* The Emperor was one of my favorite mail-away treats, particularly because when Kenner was late in sending him, they sent along some metal miniature snowtroopers as an apology. Man, those were the days.

I particularly enjoy this ad, because it’s due to the realism of the characters depicted, yet they are clearly based on the actual action figures. I’d also like to point out that this ad supports troop building, a nearly unheard of concept in our household. One stormtrooper was good enough for us, thank you very much. Of course with the limited amount of figures I could get it was either a bunch of stormtroopers and not much else, so I guess I was better off with the variety.

*To be fair, while I got a lot of toys back then, I was an expert wanter of everything.
