The Rifleman: TVs Most Literal Opening

I know I like to stick to geek stuff here and an Old West TV show is way more manly than geeky, but I also like to celebrate bad assery when I see it. For some reason I thought about the intro to the Rifleman and it made me realize that the show has perhaps the most literal opening of any TV series in history. How so? The midsection of a dude walks into frame with a kick ass modified rifle, shoots it 13 times in super quick succession. Then we get title, the announcer saying the title, then star Chuck Conners does a cool flip with the gun, the camera pull backs and Conners looks at the us as if to say, “Yep, I’m the Rifleman, this is my rifle and I don’t take shit.”

If any show needs a revival, I’d be more than happy to check out a series about a guy that loves to shoot a rifle in the Old West.

I’m the Rifleman and I love my rifle. In an unnatural fashion.

I would love to see a revival of western TV series (Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman doesn’t count). The Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Wanted: Dead or Alive, The Lone Ranger; I love them all.
The Rifleman is probably the show I saw the most growing up, for some reason it was just very easy to find it on television.
You have my permission to talk about old western shows anytime you want. I love my sci-fi, horror, superhero action, but westerns are hands down my favorite genre of film and tv.

Reminds me of the SNL sketch when Bill Murray hosted called The Whip Master. Look it up. Hilarious.
