The results are in and you have determined that the best overall character in sci-fi and fantasy is… Ellen Ripley, star of the first four Alien films!
It wasn’t a huge surprise that Ripley was one of the final two but she overcame another iconic character (who also shares a director, James Cameron), Sarah Connor from the Terminator films and tv series. That’s no small feat, but the voters made it pretty clear from the moment we opened the polls that Ripley was going to win. She overcame Michonne from Walking Dead, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and Xena from her titular show, before facing down Sarah Connor. That’s very impressive! Ripley was last seen back in 1997 so she has some staying power. She overcame characters from film, tv, books and comics to sit atop the iconic list of strong female characters. Kudos to Sigourney Weaver for an enduring set of performances.
So let’s hear from all of you who voted: Why did you vote for Ripley? What made her the best? And which female characters did we overlook when we created these brackets? What would you have done differently?
Thanks for voting!
