I might be stepping on resident Lego reviewer Chris Piers toes here, but I figured that I’d do a little bit of a “review” of a Lego set I purchased, LEGO set 6863 Batwing Battle over Gotham City. And by review, I mean bragging about a Lego purchase.
There’s basically one reason I purchased this set. It was the cheapest way I could get a black Batman mini-figure that resembles the Batman costume from the 1989 Batman movie. That and the Batwing looks fairly similar to the one from that film as well. And since I’m insane for 1989 Batman, then it was a must purchase for me.
At 35 bucks using Chris’s value per Lego math it’s not exactly the best value, but it had a couple of things going for it. You’ve got the 1989 Batman connection and the set comes with a Joker, henchman, and a helicopter. This was nice, because I got to build the Batwing and my lady could then build the Jokercopter. Everyone gets to play!
The Batwing is a fairly good size. Not too small and not too large. I like how the rear wings can come up to give it an attack mode. It has a little bomb that drops off the back too, which is a nice touch.
The Joker’s helicopter is pretty cool for a small vehicle. I really like the look of this thing. The ladder is a neat touch as well and reminds me of the ’89 movie when Batman killed the Joker by hooking a gargoyle to him. Man, it’s weird to think about the fact that Batman literally killed the Joker in that flick.
Overall I dig this set. Yes, it is a little pricey, but I’m willing to bet that I could make back at least half of what I paid for it by selling the Joker, thug, and copter.
Score: 3 out of 4 Legos
