FRU: Where’s My Friday Round Ups?!

Where’s my Friday Round Ups?! You have screamed at the heavens for the last two weeks. I have an explanation for you! And a few other thought bombs to drop on geeky things… in today’s Friday Round Up!

Toy Stuff

G.I. Joe is Dead: Hasbro pretty much dismantled the G.I. Joe brand team dashing any hopes of anything good (mass retail wise) in the world of G.I. Joe. Happy 50th Anniversary everyone!

I’d be more upset, but I’m on a low point with G.I. Joe. I still love it, but Hasbro being so shitty at putting out new figures helped wean me off collecting new Joe stuff. Plus my focus is more vintage now anyway. Here’s to hoping that in a couple of years the brand will be refreshed. Sigh.

Thundercats Live: Enjoy this nightmare fuel provided by Thundercats Live!

Cy-Kill: Big Bad Toy Store recently posted one of those 3rd party transformers that’s obviously supposed to be Cy-Kill. Hasbro owns Go-Bots now, so they could totally do something like this. There are a few Go-Bots that people fondly remember, Hasbro is silly for not doing G1 type updates to Cy-Kill, Leader 1, and that helicopter dude.

Sideshow Clones: I dipped my toes in the Sideshow 12 inch action doll arena by getting not one, but two Clone Troopers. I’ve been fiddling with reviews of each of them which hopefully I’ll post soon.

TV Stuff

Batman Beyond: Wow, was I a decade and a half late getting on board with this Batman Beyond. I didn’t watch Batman Beyond when it first came on. The concept of not-Batman fighting crime in the future did nothing for me, however now that it’s on Netflix I decided to give it a shot. It’s pretty good. I hate the rocking soundtrack, but the story telling is great.

Power Rangers: Here’s some bullshit involving Power Rangers. Chris thought you might be interested.

Movie Stuff

The Street Fighter Movie: The Street Fighter movie is awful, but also entertaining to watch in a good/bad movie way. The story of how it turned out terribly is really interesting and is laid out in this article. Do yourself a favor and read it!

3D Movies: Yeah, 3D is the worst, you’re a cool kid and you hate it, blah blah blah. I happen to love 3D so when my tax return came I bought me a 3D TV. I thought about reviewing it here on the site, but I’m not sure that it is a good fit exactly. Anyway, being one of the few people on earth that actually loves the shit out of the technology is tough, because content is fairly limited. I’ve managed to acquire 8 blu-ray DVDs. Would anyone be interested in seeing my thoughts on this stuff? Like quick reviews?

Site Stuff

Lack of Friday Round Up: You may have noticed a slight drop in the amount of content here. Fear not, I’m not giving up or anything. I’ve been too damned busy. You may or may not know that I work full time and go to school part time. Right now I’m in the middle of what the kids call “mid terms” and classes are ramping up in difficulty. In addition to school, I got a brand spanking new job with lots of responsibilities and shit. So I’ve been working on all that. Eventually I’ll reach an equilibrium, but for now just be patient!

  • Lamar the Revenger

That Street Fighter story was a pretty good read. Totally forgot about Van Damme’s blow addiction.

  • Chris Piers

Review Call of Duty in 3D and also Dredd.

  • I do not have Call of Duty 3D, but I can get it eventually. I’m supposed to watch Dredd 3D with Matty on Monday, so I can make that happen!

  • Hunter Carroll

3D isn’t bad, but people that throw in scenes in movies specifically for 3D are bad. IE- those scenes in children’s 3D movies where the characters throw stuff at you, the viewer.

  • Shawn

I wonder if the GI Joe 50th Anniversary toys will even come out at this point. If not, then the only new figures we might see is if the Collector’s Club does a third series of subscription figures.

I still love Kylie Minogue as Cammy. One of the best things about the Street Fighter movie.

  • Kylie Minogue will forever have a place in my heart.

  • Batman Beyond did a tremendous job of continuing the Batman story. I have the entire series on DVD but having it available on Netflix alleviates me having to expend calories or effort to retrieve them from the shelf. Also, there is a Justice League Unlimited episode called “Epilogue” which actually ties up some of the lingering Batman Beyond questions that never got answered due to its cancellation.

  • The worst thing to happen to 3D is bad 3D. If it wasn’t abused like it has been, it wouldn’t have such a terrible rep.

  • I bet those are still coming. They’ve probably ordered those things months ago and are on a boat coming over here now. The team probably got shitcanned after they finished work on it.

  • It’s been really solid so far. Mr. Freeze showed up and that was pretty cool.
