FRU: NSFW Spider-Man, Louis CK’s Indie Film, Star Wars EU, and Much More!

Welcome back, Partners for another outing of Friday Round Up! We got a few geeky (and a couple non-geeky) stuffs that popped up this week that were especially notable.

Funny Stuff

Spider-Man_Baloon

Spider-Man! This image of a Spider-Man balloon was placed on my FB wall by our friend Matty.

Stupid Stuff

Simpsons_Lego

Edit: This doesn’t happen very often, so you better enjoy it: It looks like I was wrong about Simpsons Lego not coming out. I didn’t realize that the official response from Lego was back in March of 2013, which at any point could have been changed. And even then they said they were basically keeping their options open.

Anti-Simpsons Lego: The above image created some buzz the last week as some people thought that Lego Simpsons was coming. Well, they’re not. However some people took major offense to the possibility! There’s a really popular thread over at Lego.com by fundamentalist parents that think it’s still 1991 and that The Simpsons is a terrible example for children. Also it’s vulgar and not funny. That may be the case, but I somehow doubt that someone who home schools their children and thinks that Duck Dynasty would make a better Lego set is the final arbiter on what is funny and what is not.

Sci-Fi Stuff

Star Wars Expanded Universe: Disney is delivering a kick in the nads to the Star Wars Expanded Universe by reorganizing it and dropping some stuff. I think the only people who are deeply effected by this are ultra nerds, because it’s really only up to you if you want to consider something that happened in a comic book to have happened “for realsies” in sthe Star Wars universe. I’ve always taken the EU with a grain of salt. It would be ridiculous to think that the main characters had constant, insane adventures their entire lives, must less everyone single person or alien surrounding them having epic adventures as well. If you like a particular book or whatever it will still exist after any “purge”. And hopefully some really terrible stuff will go away.

VoyagerTorture_Banner

Voyager Torture: I’m hard at work on a new weekly feature for the site: Voyager Torture. I watch an episode of Star Trek Voyager (which I’ve never seen before) and report on it in the briefest manner possible. The added bonus is that Chris Piers is planning on drawing an image based on my report even though he’s never watched the series! So far I’m writing the posts to have a bunch done ahead of time and it’s fun. I wish I had time for more features like this.

Movie Stuff

Gremlins Are Back, Sorta: A gremlin from the film Gremlins made an appearance in a UK Snickers ad… sort of. It’s a pretty terrible puppet over all, but an attempt at Gremlins is better than no Gremlins, I suppose.

Louis CK’s Movie: There’s some hubbub about Louis CK releasing a movie from 1998 and people are weirded out because it looks… strange. Well, people might not know that before his shows and his direction of Pootie Tang (shudder), dude did some rather arty short films. This is perfectly in line with his previous short films like Ugly Revenge and Ice Cream.

Movie Posters: Good Bad Flicks and Dread Central asks WTF Happened to Movie Posters? Interesting video.

Table Top Gaming Stuff

Friday-Round-Up_Star-Wars_X-Wing-Miniatures_1

X-Wing:

It’s been awhile since I wrote about X-Wing Minatures because it’s been awhile since I had gotten to play it. So far I’ve been able to finally use the Imperial Shuttle, TIE Bomber, and B-Wing. The Shuttle appears to be an absolute monster if you use it right, the TIE Bomber may be great while it still has bombs and missiles, and the B-Wing is fun to play and also a beast. Overall these are some great additions to the game.

Where’d you see that the LEGO Simpsons thing wasn’t real? It was pretty much the worst kept secret out there that they were coming, so I’m just curious to know where it was debunked.

  • The mods/lego reps on the forum were saying it wasn’t real and they had no plans to do them.

  • Lamar the Revenger

I can’t stand the Simpsons any more. Nearly every episode is a Lisa episode. So damn annoying. Star Wars Expanded Universe: I so agree with what was said when the news broke.. Goodbye Darksaber! Also, all the major nerd news sites reporting the story had fans saying “Drop the prequels.. Drop JarJar..” bs like that. I say knock out all the novels & comics except what Zahn wrote & the Dark Forces games.

  • Oh, I’m probably wrong. I didn’t realize how old that initial post on the forum was.

  • Chris Piers

Lego Simpsons comes in February. But the forum arguing is great comedy.

  • I would have never predicted that in 2013/14 people would still have a problem with The Simpsons.

  • Dex

Really! They should be bashing K’Nex for making Family Guy sets if anything :D
