This is a trailer for Krampus, the evil version of Santa Claus and a real part of Nordic mythology, though not promoted nearly as much as the idea of Santa. Looks to be a funny horror movie about Krampus coming for unhappy and bad kids. Thought you’d get a kick out of it. We also have news for TV shows like Flash and Preacher, movies like Road House and Pacific Rim 2, books like the Game of Thrones series, and of course Fox News anchors suing Hasbro for millions, among other fun news items.
Season 2 of The Flash is coming and here’s there cool little trailer which shows us that Jay Garrick (the original Flash in the comics) will be introduced, possibly as a new mentor to Barry. Looks like he comes from an alternate universe. A rumor this past Summer said that the show may create a multiverse that refers to previous TV and movie versions of DC superheroes. Could be fun!
The first trailer for Netflix’ second Marvel show, Jessica Jones, came out. It gives us very little, but we know it’ll be released on November 20th, so that you could just binge watch on Thanksgiving instead of talking to your family. It also uses a very artsy color pallette that is clearly reminiscent of artist David Mack’s work, who was the first artist to illustrate Jessica’s story in the comic Alias. There’s also a decent amount of purple used, which makes sense since her personal nemesis is the Purple Man, who will be played by David Tennant.
Seth Rogen, a producer of the Preacher adaptation for AMC tweeted the above image and also tweeted it would premier May 2016. He deleted the premier date tweet but it’d probably be at least close to that since they’re filming now. AMC confirmed yesterday that it picked the show up for a full season order of 10 episodes and will air them sometime in mid-2016. I’m amazed that we’re getting an adaptation of that comic. One of my favs in the 90s.
MMA superstar Ronda Rousey was announced to star in a remake of the Patrick Swayze cult hit Road House. I think that’s perfect casting. She’s a legit badass who should be able to convincingly play a bouncer. Of course, lots of people are upset, seemingly because she’s a woman. But seriously, Road House is entertaining but it’s also very cheesy and everyone makes fun of it. It’s not some sacred movie that shouldn’t be remade because it was so perfect.
This is unconfirmed, but Latino Review says Pacific Rim 2 could be delayed until 2017. Originally, filming was set to begin this November for a release next year. I hope it still happens. I loved the first movie.
Speaking of Pacific Rim, director Guillermo del Toro has an art show based on his movies that starts today and will remain on display at Gallery 1988 West in Los Angeles through October 3rd. So if you’re in the area, it looks to have a lot of awesome artwork worth checking out.
Honestly, Force Friday was a bit of a dud. Read anyone’s story of getting in a midnight line and you’re sure to read a story of someone not being able to get what they wanted. That said, here’s an amazing Star Wars item that was discovered this week. Tom Spina designs custom furniture and above is a coffee table he made of the Millenium Falcon going through an asteroid field as seen in Empire Strikes Back. Here’s his site to see more of his work or to contact him for a custom piece of your own.
Apple announced their upcoming stuff this week and most of it was business as usual. The biggest thing showcased was Apple’s new stylus specifically made for its iPad Pro. Some controversy exists because people remember the late Steve Jobs saying if the iPad ever had a stylus it’s being done wrong. But this stylus is not intended to be the way you interact with the tablet in general. It’s specifically made for artists and architects. It’s exceptionally pressure and angle sensitive, allowing an artist to draw in real time right on the tablet. As an artist, I’m very interested. You can read more about it here.
According to the Spanish publisher of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books (Game of Thrones), it looks like his sixth book, The Winds of Winter, is on track for release next year. If so, he may actually be able to get the book out just before season 6 of the HBO adaptation, which is absolutely including story elements past the published five novels.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (as we all will be doing), NECA has a super detailed Jason planned for release this December. It’ll feature his tombstone and fence post that reanimated him and a removable mask.
Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner is suing Hasbro for $5 million because one of their Littlest Pet Shop toys, a hamster, is also named Harris Faulkner and she believes it looks like her too (debatable). While I guess she probably is owed something for the use of her name, she’s actually suing them because she believes it damages her credibility as a reporter (how?) and is a choking hazard to little children (no reported deaths from the toyline yet). Weird, weird case.
Blastr hired CONography to take photos of cosplay at this past weekend’s Dragon*Con. I think the best has to be cosplayer Rawrbomb as Immortan Trump. Who destroyed the world? I think we all know.
