Warner Bros. proves that it can deliver superheroes in a non-grimdark fashion with the release of the Lego Batman Movie trailer. Looks like a lot of fun. Will Arnett was a great choice for Lego Batman. Below are some of the fun articles we came across this past week that we think deserve to be shared. Some stuff on Voltron, FLCL, Wonder Woman, The Matrix, Star Wars and more! It’s a small one this week but good.
The new season of Archer returns to FX on Thursday, the 31st. So the character did a short review of every James Bond movie over on Entertainment Weekly. Laugh out loud funny.
Adult Swim announced that they would make a sequel to the incredible, groundbreaking anime series FLCL. Technically two sequels as they’re making two 6-episode seasons. I’m stunned. FLCL is one of my all-time favorite animes. It basically focuses on a kid, Naota, growing up and learning what it takes to be a man. It’s all a metaphor for puberty. But there’s a lot of action and a lot of weirdness. Also, an amazing soundtrack by The Pillows. I don’t know if they can recapture the magic of something so well done, especially so many years after it came out but I’m pretty excited to see them try.
Netflix will soon debut a new Voltron show produced by Dreamworks Animation. Ahead of Wondercon, they released the above image of the new Voltron. The show, Legendary Defender, centers on five Earth teenagers — Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro — who are thrown into the middle of an intergalactic battle and become the last line of defense for Arus and other planets against an evil alien force led by King Zarkon.
A new fan theory posits that Agent Smith, not Neo, is “The One”. It’s worth a quick watch.
Entertainment Weekly revealed the first official photo for the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. It’ll be set back during World War I, when mankind did some really shitty things to one another (first use of chemical warfare among other atrocities). Along with Princess Diana (Gal Gadot), we see Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and her two military aunts – General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli). This trio of immortals is responsible for both raising and training Diana — the only child on Themyscira Island.
Atari has released Atari Vault, a compilation of 100 of their classic games from the original Atari 2600 console. It’s available on Steam for $16.99 and it includes classics like Centipede, Asteroids, Tempest. Tons more. The $16.99 is for today only, then it goes up to a whopping $19.99. I grew up with an Atari 2600. I still have tremendous affection for those games. Many of them hold up quite well!
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD/Blu-Ray lands on April 5th and to promote it, Lucasfilm released a brief teaser of deleted scenes. Can’t wait to watch this one again.
