Cable, His Baby Buddy, and Captain America

The inspiration for the strangest buddy cop movie ever.

I was catching up on my Marvel toy related news the other day when I ran across the above image of the Marvel Universe Cable. Cable’s whole history is seriously fucked up, so I’m not even going to attempt to explain this. Besides, the image is much more enjoyable if it’s completely out of context.

Over on Idle Hands blog they featured some action figures from the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie toy line. Like any Hasbro movie related toy line geared for the kid set, they’re going to throw in some figures for the collector audience (as long as you toss whatever stupid missile launcher they include).

What figure is better suited for a parachute than Captain America? It’s like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that kills Nazis.

I love that Captain Britain is included here. Why not have the counterpart to Captain America (in name at least)? He was already released in the regular Marvel Universe line, but I’ve never seen him in stores. Besides, this version is more like a hybrid between the classic costume and the more military angle of Captain America, so it makes him different enough to consider a purchase if you already have the classic costume version. Nice work.

Another figure that I’m really excited to see is US Agent, the poor man’s Captain America. I love US Agent, though it looks like I’ll have to make a new shield for him that is basically Cap’s classic round shield, but in black and white. Still, Hasbro has answered my prayers on this one.

  • Why did they make Captain Britain instead of Union Jack? Union Jack is much more the UK version of Captain America.

  • Chad B

Yeah I’m mostly looking forward to US Agent from the Cap line, and will also need to make or purchase a new shield for him. I know the one he comes with is from the comics, but that’s not the one I identify with US Agent.

  • Chris, maybe if his name was Captain Union Jack it might make a little sense… seriously thought, its a lot cheaper to do a new paint job and put a belt on Captain Britain than to come up with a whole new figure.

I had one of the first Cable toys. it looked ten times better than that.

  • When a character’s history is that ridiculously screwy, I make up my own.

Why is there a red dot on the kid’s forehead? Deadpool trying to shoot him? lol

  • Hah, I don’t think that’s the case, but it would be hilarious if it was meant to be a laser sight.

I kind of agree with you on making up a characters history. While I don’t do that exactly, I do choose to ignore things. Like Captain America’s “death”? didn’t happen.

  • Baby Armor, that is Hope’s purpose.
