Bill Murray Played the Human Torch

murrayDid you know that Bill Murray once played the Fantastic Four’s Human Torch? Well, you do now! In the 1970s Marvel Comics produced a series of radio dramas based on the Fantastic Four Comics, which are like the old time radio dramas that super nerds like myself really love.

Bill Murray, who is obviously a complete unknown at the time, gives a rather interesting performance as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch. His performance is… well you’d expect more from Bill Murray, but he hasn’t had the acting experience that he got later in life. Either that or he didn’t really put much effort into a radio drama that is pretty ridiculous. How does one say, “Flame on” without feeling like the biggest idiot in the world.

There’s of sweetness packed in the Fantastic Four radio drama. Not only does Stan Lee narrate, but famous characters like Dr. Doom, Namor, and the Incredible Hulk make appearances. Excelsior!

Ten of the Fantastic Four radio drama episodes can be heard at the Internet Archive. Listen to them now!

  • Wow I had no idea these existed. I used to love the ol Power Records story albums and read along comic/45 rpms. Will have to check these out.
