One of the best direct to DVD comic book films is Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern flick isn’t that bad either. Unfortunately, sales weren’t as high as they hoped so that means goodness is taken away from us. According to Bruce Timm, the god of anything DC and animated, has stated that there was a planned sequel to Wonder Woman, but since sales were slow the studio decided to shit can it. Even worse, that means no more Batgirl film or any other DC female centric flick. What utter crap.
We had originally planned to do sequels for Wonder Woman [but] sales started out extremely slow and then over time were eventually able to catch up to probably Justice League Frontier. The execs decided because it wasn’t able to sell quickly right away, where as Justice League was, that there wouldn’t be any more female super hero films right now. We were developing and hoping to get started on a batgirl film based on Year One, but because of Wonder Woman’s slow sales start, that won’t be happening now.
Just because a DVD takes a bit to catch on doesn’t mean it’s a failure and if it eventually is successful, wouldn’t a follow up only build on that initial success?
