When I was 10 years old, I loved the Transformers. I couldn’t get enough of the cartoon. But this was in a time when there was no streaming tv shows, YouTube, etc. There weren’t even VHS copies of the show to rent. You watched it when it aired and that was it. No DVRs. So if you wanted more of something? You made your own. In my downtime, I began drawing my own Transformers comic. I had no script or goals other than to try to include every Transformer that I could. It was derivative, repetitive, confusing… and kind of hilarious. For Transformers Week, I share this project with you. It began modestly and went well beyond what a normal kid would have the patience for, growing into an unwieldy 60+ page story with no conclusion. Personally, I think there’s a cumulative effect where each page gets more hilarious. It’s also funny to me to think that as a 10-year old I had the hubris to watch the cartoon and go, “Eh, I can do better.”
