5 Other Nerdy Roles of Leonard Nimoy

Leonard Nimoy with Spock Doll

Leonard Nimoy is a legend to nerds everywhere. He also managed to penetrate the great collective consciousnesses. The character that he’s most known for, Spock, transcended Star Trek and became a pop culture icon in his own right. But Nimoy is in my mind equally known for some other roles that don’t get as much attention as Star Trek’s Spock. Here’s five other nerdy roles that Leonard Nimoy has played!

In Search Of…

I used to be obsessed with the paranormal and the bizzare and that was in no doubt help fueled by reruns of In Search Of. I particularly remember it airing on Sci-fi channel in the 1990s as I’d get ready for school every morning.

Nimoy’s presence gave the show a really cool edge and his signature voice helped lend an air of mystery to the subjects of “In Search of…” The fact that the episodes were fairly dated helped to solidify the show, in my mind, that we were dealing with some serious otherworldly stuff here.

The Narrator of Sea Man

Sea Man was such a weird game. And a totally unique one. Seaman was released for the Dreamcast and it came with a mic that let you interact with the game. The game play consisted of a fish tank that you visited and you’d raise this water based creature. One of the absolutely best parts of Sea Man was Leonard Nimoy’s narration (skip forward about 30 seconds on the video to hear him).

Transformers: The Movie

Orson Wells gets a lot of play for being the famous person in this film (as Unicron in his final role), but Leonard Nimoy was an important second. Nimoy’s voice as Galvatron is simply fantastic.

The Outer Limits

Mr. Nimoy made an appearance on the original Outer Limits television series as a lawyer who defends a robot accused of murder (which was an adaptation from the classic science fiction novel I, Robot). Heady sci-fi stuff. Years later he came back to play the same role in the resurrected Outer Limits in the 1990s. He just loves defending robots.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Warning, spoiler in the clip.

If you haven’t seen the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, stop what you’re doing and check it out. This movie really freaks me out. Nimoy brings a certain presence to the film that really helps with the atmosphere.

  • Chris Piers

His role as William Bell on Fringe was another great one.

  • April G

My favorite after his role as Spock is his RL art as a photographer. He has done some beautiful work.

  • My favorite non-nerdy role of his was he was in a TV movie about a guy fighting people who were holocaust deniers. I was pretty young when I saw it and I didn’t even know that such a thing existed. It really opened up my eyes to how stupid people can be.

  • I should make an expanded list.

    How about mission impossible?
